Attendance
NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY 2025-2026
Parent notes are allowed. 3 days per semester=6 days total for the school year. No parent notes will be accepted during state testing or final exams. Parent notes must be submitted within 3 days after absence or before the absence occurs.
Medical notes are now limited to a total of 8 per block per year. Any medical above 8 will count as unexcused and must be made up.
To be promoted to the next grade or receive credit for high school courses, students may not be absent from school or class for more than ten (10) days for yearlong courses or five (5) days for semester courses, unless the absences are excused and only 3 unexcused for Quarter classes (Gov/Econ)
ABSENTEE PROCEDURES
1. On the morning of a student absence, the parent should call and notify the attendance clerk.
2. On the day of return, the student should present a note to the attendance clerk before reporting to the class(es) missed. This should be handled before the tardy bell and is not an excuse for being tardy to first period. If emailing the excuse, please submit the email to Mrs. Melissa Lane at mlane@horrycountyschools.net Without a note, the student’s absence is unlawful. Not providing a note could be considered class/school cutting and then addressed accordingly. Medical excuses will not be accepted unless presented within three days of the student’s absence.
The note is to specify the following:
- Student’s name
- Date(s) of absence
- Parent’s signature
- Date the note is written
- Reason for the absence
- Parent’s daytime phone #
